Due North Adventure 2022: Part 1

Good Day Readers!

If you’ve not read the introduction to this adventure, you should start with that here.

The map above depicts what I am calling “Part 1” of my trip. As I stated in my previous post, I have an overwhelming desire to ride to Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Yellowknife sits at what amounts to the “end of the road”, and it means back-tracking several hundred miles to get to a road that allows you to head somewhere else. Does that make it less desirable as a travel destination? I guess that depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I try to never ride the same road twice during a trip, but during this ride that will be impossible.

Yellowknife sits roughly 2700 miles northwest of my doorstep. Whether, or not, I choose to ride via Winnipeg will either add or subtract a few miles but those are minimal in the grand scheme of things. My goal initially, is to shoot for 700 miles per day which should allow me to reach Yellowknife in roughly 4 days. I know that 700 miles is a lot, but I enjoy long distance riding, and that distance is not new to me. I’ll update my expectations as the trip progresses, and I certainly do not plan to do the entire trip at that pace.

I’m going to attempt to camp where permissible/available. As I’m doing this trip in July, I’m expecting that many of the campsites will be spoken for, but I’m sure I’ll find something, somewhere.

From Yellowknife I’ll continue north (by going south initially), but more about that later.
